I remember the day I wrote this song. I was still living in my Lakewood apartment in September of 2019 and I had an off day between gigs. The best way to describe the process of writing “Driftin’” is that it felt similar to climbing a mountain. It didn’t come easy. It took me about 5 hours of constantly re-working and re-working it till I felt I had something substantial. Usually if it takes me that long to write a song it means it’s probably a stinker but I just knew this was different. Something that kind of summed up my journey in music thus far and the pursuit of the creative life. It’s one of the songs I’m most proud of writing and it probably has about the lowest amount of streams on any platform but every time I play it live whether solo or with a band I feel myself coming back into center, back into the reason I started doing this thing in the first place.
